School of International Cooperation
Home » school
The aim of the School of International Cooperation is to train expert professionals in emergency and development contexts (such as financial officers, project managers, country coordinators, technicians), to promote the international cooperation culture and to activate a fruitful dialogue with the actors of sustainable development (universities, research centers, companies, civil society organizations – CSOs).
The School of International Cooperation provides induction and advanced training courses for humanitarian workers to enhance their skills for effective intervention in challenging contexts – those where NGOs operate. The School also hosts cultural events and activities like seminars, conferences, and research initiatives to deepen specialized knowledge and foster dialogue in the field.
The School of International Cooperation was formally established in May 2022, as a social enterprise, after two years of experimentation and testing carried out within COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale. The School builds on 60 years of COOPI’s experience, for which training has always been of fundamental importance and which has helped more than 125 million people through 3,000 projects in 74 countries, employing more than 5,400 expatriate operators and about 68,000 local operators.
The School of International Cooperation stands as a hub for knowledge in international cooperation, fostering innovation and empowering humanitarian workers. We promote a culture of cooperation, sustainability and social responsibility.

By training people for specialized roles, the School of International Cooperation aims to:
- create a specific learning environment for practitioners
- strengthen and reorient professional skills
- increase collaboration among international cooperation, business and the public sector on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
The School of International Cooperation operates in three key areas: education, culture and research.
The education area aims to meet the needs for professionalization, updating and continuing education of humanitarian workers through the provision of short- and long-term courses for:
- entry into the field of international cooperation;
- career development related to a specific professionalism;
- specialization in a specific field or activity;
- timely professional updating.
Looking forward, the School of International Cooperation also aims at offering training paths that go beyond the course alone, integrating field projects, coaching, participation in events, etc.
The culture area intends to raise reflections and debates on a rapidly changing intervention scenario in order to train and spread the ability to proactively anticipate the future. For this purpose, the School of International Cooperation will organize lectures, seminars and workshops on:
- emerging issues in the field of international cooperation;
- cross-cutting themes and issues (sustainability, social responsibility, etc.), aimed at institutions and companies;
- information and awareness seminars aimed at a wide public, to increase awareness around international cooperation.
The research area, designed to support the training and culture area, is aimed at:
- anticipating trends and phenomena, through working groups and activated communities of practice;
- monitoring the needs of NGOs in order to have a training offer that is adapted to the needs for change taking place in the sector;
- developing materials in order to strengthen sector know-how
